Jon Gunderson and his team at the Department of Rehabilitation-Education Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have created the WWW HTML Accessibility Tool (WHAT). The WHAT prototype is a tool that guides authors through creating more accessible versions of the Web documents.
The tool analyzes images for alternative representations, such as ALT tags. Using it, the author can review, change, and add to the current attributes for ALT, TITLE and LONGDESC tags in their documents. The modified page can then be viewed within the WHAT program before being transferred to replace the original on the Web.
